Four Days after I bought Shilo... he had an accident.

I had him crosstied in the aisle and he spooked.  He reared twice and then flipped to his left side on concrete.  He got up and started to walk and then I noticed something...

He was holding his left hind leg up and his walk was very stiff.  He could walk, but it was slow and stiff.  I immediately called Mom who said that we should keep him in the stall for a few days to make sure no real damage had been done.  She thought he might be sore from the fall.

Although I had paid for pasture, the owner of the barn (known from this point forward as "The Lady") said she would keep in him a stall for a few days for observation.  And this is when things got "Fun".

A few days later and Shilo was still stiff.  We brought him to the vet (known from this point forward as "The Vet").  Anyway..... The vet palpated him and diagnosed him with a FRACTURED PELVIS!

Yep, a fractured pelvis.  The vet said, "Stall rest for at least 6 weeks."  Sounded good to me.  I got home, got on the internet and started researching.  Everything I could find said that stall rest was the best for any hip/pelvic fracture.  So I have now owned a horse for 4 days and he now has to be locked up in solitary for 6 weeks!  My Luck I tell ya.

Now back to the Stall rest thing.   I went to the barn everyday, and Shilo looked to be improving.  Still sore, but improving.  My husband and I told The Lady that we would pay here the extra amount for stall and she declined.

Then there came the day that I went out and Shilo was not in his stall but out in the 20 acre pasture with 5 other horses.   He was galloping up and down hills on three legs!  I was not pleased at all.   When I confronted her about it, she said that he had gone nuts in the stall!   That he was Crazy and she "had to let him out".  I told her that I wanted him in a stall and that I would pay for it.  Meanwhile, this has all happened in about 7 days since the accident.

There were many times that Shilo was rushed to The Vet by The Lady.  Then The Lady would call my husband and say "we have to put the horse down".  Of course, my loving husband (Scott) said, "I'm not crazy...I will NOT put my wife's horse down without her knowledge".   The Vet kept saying that the Shilo was still hurt and still needed stall rest.

In Order to "Calm" Shilo down in the stall Scott and I decided to buy him a friend... Goat.

The plan for Goat  was for him to live in the stall next to Shilo for a week or so, until Shilo got used to him.   Then we would introduce Goat to Shilo and have him hang out in the stall with Shilo.  Goat and Shilo would be friends and Shilo would no longer go "Crazy" in the stall.  Shilo would not need to be turned out in pasture.  That was a great plan until Goat became the family pet.  Goat was now a part of The Lady's family... always up at the house and playing with the kids.  Anywhere but with Shilo.

This running to the vet's happened about three times and came to a halt.  The last time Scott asked The Vet if Shilo could stay with him for a week for observation.  The Vet agreed.  Again, everyday I went out to brush Shilo and give him carrots (he was not hooked on peppermints yet).  On the 5th day, I came out to find Shilo out in the pasture.  Really annoyed by this point I confronted The Vet.  The Vet told me that Shilo was bored in the stall.

At this point.... I had had it!
