OPERATION SHILO

Mom and Scott arranged all of the details about the drive.   The beginning of April 2000 was the travel date.  Scott and I offered The Lady The Goat in return for letting us use her trailer one Saturday. She accepted the Goat.

Scott and I awoke at 4am on Saturday.  Went to the barn.  Hooked up the trailer and bedded it down with about 2 feet of hay and straw.  Put Shilo in and off we went to meet Mom in Jackson, Mississippi.

We all arrived at the rest area on time.  We let Shilo walk around a bit and eat some grass.  Then he got in mom's trailer and off they went for a three hour ride to her house.  All in All...

Operation Shilo trailering time total:  12 - 13 hours.

Longest Time Shilo had ever been in a trailer prior to this:  1 hour.

He is a Great horse!

Mom then did the following:

3 months of straight stall.   Shilo did not go out.  Period.
Then little walks every other day for 2 weeks, for about 10 minutes. Pretty sure that she did this for about 1 month total.
Mom had Shilo outside in a stall area that she made so he could eat some grass.   She started to make this area bigger and bigger until he was let out in the pasture.

Mom started to ride him in December 2000.  Little by Little.  She started off just walking for about 5 minutes.   She has worked up from there.
